Kayaking and Windsurfing

Kayaking is very popular at several locations in Sequim, starting right at your doorstep on Jamestown Beach. Many people kayak out to Dungeness lighthouse from Jamestown, others put in Cline Spit boat launch inside Dungeness Bay, and some start a trip in Sequim Bay at John Wayne Marina. Kayaking is a peaceful way to enjoy the views and observe the many species such as seals, otters, eagles, and terns that frequent the area. Several local merchants rent kayaks and guide tours.

The boat launch at Cline Spit offers some of the best, and most consistent windsurfing in the Northwest. In the summer months, afternoon and evening strong thermal winds typically power up experienced sailors on shortboards with 4-5 meter sails.

Bicycling

The rolling pasture land and Olympic foothills between Sequim and Port Angeles provide ideal terrain .for road biking. A huge choice of smaller back roads makes for great  for 1-3 hour road bike loops from Jamestown. Some of the favorite loops include Jamestown-Marine drive-Lotgezelle-Game Farm-Woodcock-Jameston,  Jamestown-Woodcock-Marina-Downtown-Jamestown, and Jamestown-Evans Road-Happy Valley-Bell Hill-Palo Alto Road-Marina-Jamestown.

The flat streets surrounding Jamestown are also ideal for casual rides and also running.

Beach Walking

Dungeness spit is one of the nicest beach walks anywhere. A nicely graded trail leads down through the woods to the water, after which you can walk along the breakers up to five miles out into the Straight of Juan de Fuca.

The 300 feet of beach and extensive tidelands directly in front of the cabins are a great place to explore the beach as well. For a longer walk from the houses, head to the public access on the corner of Jamestown Rd and Wilcox, and stroll down through the Greysmarsh area. The beach, land, and tidelands along Jamestown Rd are private property.

Hiking

For those interested in getting out and exploring, the Olympic mountains offer endless miles of spectacular wooded and alpine hiking trails. For shorter hikes of less than 5 miles, try Happy Hill or Obstruction Point on Hurricane ridge, the Olympic natural hot springs trail off the Elwah river, Soleduck Falls, or the Dungeness River trail off Palo Alto Road. For more ambitious day or overnight treks to pristine alpine meadows, lakes, and peaks, try Obstruction Point to Grand Valley, Royal Basin, or Boulder Lake.

Golf

The temperate and dry climate make year around golf a reality in Sequim. While there are several private courses in Sequim and Port Angeles, just minutes away is the Dungeness Golf Course. This is a 6,456 yard, 18 Hole Championship Golf Course with superb course conditions, a grass driving range and great views of the Olympic Mountains.

Fishing

The North Olympic Peninsula offers some of the best fresh and salt water fishing in the Northwest. In May and June, area lakes such as Gibbs, Andersen, Mills, and Horseshoe offer good action for sometimes large Rainbow trout. High lakes in the Olympics such as Grand, Boulder, and Royal have nice populations of Brook Trout. West end rivers such as the Soleduck and the Bogachiel are renowned for fall salmon and winter steelhead fishing.

Yet, for many, the saltwater salmon fishing offers the opportunity of a lifetime to boat a beauty of a king or silver salmon. Some of the best salmon fishing in the country is via charters based in Neah Bay. Its an early start and a long day from Sequim, but usually an unforgettable experience.

Game Farm

Just minutes away from Jamestown is the Olympic Game Farm. This large animal park in a beautiful setting near the Dungeness river, is a great family activity. Typically you drive a 45 min - 1 hour route through a variety of animal habitats, both fenced and unfenced. Highlights usually include the Grizzly Bears (behind electric fences, but close enough), Zebras, Rhino, and Buffalos (unfenced). Children love feeding the animals through the windows and seeing them close up.

Swimming and Hot Springs

Looking for a relaxing place to soak, or a spot for the kids to splash around. Sequim is blessed with one of finest public aquatic facilities in the state. Known as Sequim Aquatic Recreation Center (SARC), this facilty has an olympic-sized swimming pool, a wading pool, a large spa, and exercise facilities.

For hot springs in a more natural setting, Soleduck hot springs, which is about 90 minutes west of Sequim has a developed set of natural hot springs fed spas and swimming pools. Olympic Hot Springs, in the Elwah drainage, are undeveloped natural hot springs for those who want to hike the 3-4 mile hike in and soak in amongst the rocks.
